The Dassault Falcon 8X was first announced at the EBACE in May of 2014. It is an upgrade from the 7X model, and has improvements to its range, wing design, tri-jet engines and more. One noticeable upgrade is the extended fuselage which is approximately 3 ft 6″ longer than the 7X model. As a result, before the announcement of the 6X in March of 2018. It was known to have the longest cabin (1) of any Falcon in the family.
With its first flight in February of 2015. The 8X was manufactured with the intentions of competing with the Gulfstream G650 and the Bombardier Global Express lineup.
Performance
This aircraft is powered by three Pratt & Whitney Canada PW307D engines, with approximately 6,722 lbs of thrust. It can seat up to 12 passengers including pilot and crew in a standard configuration. Although it is said to be able to travel with up to 16 passengers. With 8 passengers and three crew (2 pilots +1), the Falcon 8X can reach a maximum range of approx 6,450 nautical miles (2) at Mach 0.80.
The maximum cruise speed or maximum operating Mach (MMO) with this aircraft is Mach 0.90, while it’s maximum cruise altitude is approximately 51,000 ft. You can also expect to find a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of approximately 73,000 lbs and a maximum landing weight (MLW) of 62,400 lbs.
Interior
When it comes to the cabin on the 8X, you can expect a very unique and high-end experience. With three zones or living areas, the cabin is approximately 6 ft 2″ in height, 7 ft 8″ in width and 42 ft 10″ in length. The FalconHD+ in-flight system also allows passengers control over different functions of the cabin. These functions include lighting, temperature, window shades, audio, video etc.
Like the 7X, this aircraft is equipped with the Falcon EASy Flight Deck Avionics. This aircraft features the Honeywell Primus Epic EASy III Flight Deck (3), which uses four 14.1 inch LCD displays, plus an optional dual widescreen heads up display (HUD). This display features the FalconEye which helps improve overall safety, situational awareness and performance of the aircraft.
You can also find an additional feature from Honeywell called the 3D color weather radar system. The function of this system is to provide safer and smoother operations through advanced turbulence detection, predictive lighting, hail detection and more.
Additional Information:
- This aircraft also uses a proprietary feature called the Digital Flight Control System (DFCS). This feature can also be found on the Dassault Rafale fighter jet.
